The Big New Year’s Clean-Up
Jimmy is searching under his bed.
Lucy: What’s the matter Jimmy?
Jimmy: I’ve searched high and low but I can’t find my keys. My watch is also missing!
Lucy: I know why. Look at your room; it’s so messy. You should clean it up.
Jimmy: Maybe you’re right. I guess that would be a good way to start the New Year.
Lucy: While we’re at it, we might as well clean the whole house.
Jimmy: The whole house? That’ll take all day to finish.
Lucy: But if we divide up the chores, it will be much easier.
Jimmy: Fine, I can clean up the living room and my room.
Lucy: I’ll wipe the stains off the kitchen stove and clean the basement as well.
Jimmy: Maybe I should take care of the bathroom. But could you vacuum the floors in the house? It’s not as gross as cleaning the bathroom.
Lucy: Wow, I didn’t know you could be so sweet, Jimmy.
Jimmy: Of course. I will start cleaning my room immediately.
Lucy: Alright then. Let’s get to it!
Lucy and Jimmy start cleaning the house.
Lucy and Jimmy have finished their chores.
Jimmy: Wow, I never realized that doing housework could be so difficult.
Lucy: Me neither. Now I really appreciate all of Mom’s hard work.
Jimmy: Me too. By the way, look what I found while cleaning my room.
Lucy: I knew you would find your keys and watch eventually.
Jimmy: I also located my old baseball cap, some DVDs, and my library card.
Lucy:Sounds great. It’s like finding hidden treasure.
Jimmy: Yeah. Now, I still have lots of energy, though. What should we do next?
Lucy thinks about it for a moment.
Lucy: I’ve got it. Let’s decorate the house for the New Year.
Jimmy: That’s a great idea. I’ll put up some red poetic couplets on the front door for good luck.
Lucy: Then I can take out the New Year’s candy box and put some snacks in it.
Jimmy: Wow, I can picture how cheery our house will be.
Lucy: Yes, it’ll definitely look great. Those things should bring our family lots of good luck and blessings in the upcoming year.
Lucy and Jimmy start decorating the house.
